How is the DCI® Score calculated when SEO or Accessibility modules are not enabled?

Modified on: Wed, 1 Jul, 2026 at 2:48 PM

The Digital Certainty Index® (DCI®) is patented.

Answer

The DCI® score is calculated using three equally weighted modules: Quality Assurance, SEO, and Accessibility. If a module is not enabled:

  • If the SEO module is not enabled, an SEO score is still calculated based on QA crawl data, but the underlying issues are not visible.
  • If the Accessibility module is not enabled, no Accessibility score is calculated, which lowers the overall DCI score and limits the maximum possible score to approximately 66.6%.

How DCI® scoring works

The DCI® score is calculated as the weighted average of three module scores:

  • Quality Assurance (QA) = 33.33%
  • SEO = 33.33%
  • Accessibility = 33.33%

Example:

  • QA Score = 86%
  • SEO Score = 74%
  • Accessibility Score = 69%

Final DCI Score:

(86 × 0.333) + (74 × 0.333) + (69 × 0.333) = 76.3%

What happens if the SEO module is not enabled

  • An SEO score is still included in the DCI calculation
  • The score is derived from the QA crawl
  • Users cannot view the detailed SEO issues

Impact:

  • No change to overall weighting
  • Reduced visibility into SEO data

What happens if the Accessibility module is not enabled

  • The Accessibility score cannot be calculated
  • It is effectively treated as 0 in the weighted calculation

Example:

  • QA Score = 86%
  • SEO Score = 74%
  • Accessibility Score = not available

Final DCI Score:

(86 × 0.333) + (74 × 0.333) + (0 × 0.333) = 53.28%

Impact:

  • The DCI score is significantly reduced
  • The maximum achievable score is approximately 66.6%, even with perfect QA and SEO scores

Key takeaways

  • The DCI score is always based on three equally weighted components
  • Missing SEO affects visibility of issues, not the calculation itself
  • Missing Accessibility directly impacts both the score and the maximum achievable value
