What policy templates are useful when addressing global website challenges?

If you’re managing or delivering global web content, you’ll need to think about localizing your content for different regional settings.

Localization involves more than just the translation of content. Siteimprove have developed the following policy library templates to identify issues that can arise on a global website:

Inconsistent time formats

This policy looks for time formats that do not conform to your chosen standard. You can choose from two formats: 24-hour notation, where the units are separated by a colon (e.g. 23:59:00) or 12-hour notation, where the units are separated by a colon, followed by “am” or “pm”, e.g. 3:45 am.

Inconsistent date formats

This policy finds dates that are in the incorrect format. If you mark one of the date formats as your preferred one, this policy will find dates that are using another standard.

Inconsistent phone number formats

This policy finds phone numbers that are in the incorrect format. For example, if you choose 'US phone number standard', this policy will find phone numbers that are using another standard.

Inconsistent usage of digit separators

This policy looks for digit notation formats that do not conform to your chosen standard for grouping digits. You can choose between two standards:

  • Commas are used to group multiples of thousands, and a period is used to separate decimals, e.g. 1,350.50.
  • Periods are used to group multiples of thousands, and a comma is used to separate decimals, e.g. 1.350,50.

You can find these and other useful policy templates in the Siteimprove platform under Policy > Policy Library.

The Siteimprove policy module can you help keep your content in order. Find out more in the article Introduction to Policy and check out our interactive tutorial on how to add a policy from the Policy Library.
